Councils
Teen Austin UNICEF has 4 councils, each representing a UNICEF initiative. Every member is apart of a council and is dedicated to supporting their cause. Our councils are Healthcare, Education, Gender Equality, and WASH.
Healthcare
More than half of the world doesn't have access to healthcare, and children are by far the most affected by this inequity. By vaccinating children to prevent diseases, scaling up essential maternal and newborn care, and strengthening health systems in underdeveloped countries that are able to withstand crises, UNICEF works to improve every child's quality of life.
Education
Over 600 million children lack fundamental skills in math and reading. Education is a basic human right, and UNICEF collaborates with local, national, and global partners to enhance children's access to quality education. This includes establishing temporary classrooms for child refugees, providing learning materials like books, training teachers, and even reconstructing entire educational systems when needed.
Gender Equality
Girls and women face severe barriers in access to opportunities, healthcare, and education globally. With a mission to ensure equal opportunities for all children, UNICEF has long championed gender equality, working tirelessly with partners around the world to help ensure that every girl and woman can live free from violence, attend and complete school, and receive comprehensive health care.
WASH - Safe water, sanitation and hygiene services.
1 and 10 people globally don't have access to clean drinking water, but every year UNICEF helps millions of families gain improved access to safe water services and basic sanitation. UNICEF develops and installs climate-resilient safe-water services — including solar-powered water systems, which can withstand climate shocks, pump water from deeper levels below the ground, store water to mitigate against drought and enhance the overall quality of water services — making water more readily accessible to schools, healthcare facilities and entire communities.
